Dr Johnathan Oshupeng Maseng

Dr. Jonathan Oshupeng Maseng, a Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator in Political Science at the University of Mpumalanga, is a distinguished scholar specialising in South African politics, policy analysis, race relations, social cohesion, and migration dynamics.

Holding a PhD, his research explores critical issues such as corruption, xenophobia, and challenges in state governance, with notable publications on African continental integration and political interference in public institutions. His work has significantly influenced academic and policy discourse, earning recognition for its depth and relevance. Passionate about fostering inclusive dialogue and advancing political scholarship, Dr. Maseng was recently elected Secretary General of the South African Association of Political Studies (SAAPS).

In this role, he aims to strengthen SAAPS’ mission by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and addressing contemporary political challenges across South Africa and the African continent. His leadership is expected to enhance SAAPS’ impact within academic and policy spheres.
